LUTAN FYAH JAMAICA
Football and reggae are synonymous with Jamaican roots culture and the two are ever bonded together. Singer Lutan Fyah has great experience with both fields of endeavour. The talented mid fielder was the toast of St. Andrew Technical during his high school years and played professionally for De-la-Vega and Constant Spring football clubs. Football, however, took a back seat in 1999 when the pull of the music became so strong that Lutan knew he had no choice but to follow his destiny. And, although not yet a household name, this artist has performed on many international stages, to much acclaim from audiences. Lutan Fyah recalls that his internship with deejay Buju Banton at Banton´s Gargamel studio was a welcome introduction to the world of music and lay the foundation for what many believe will be an enduring career. There he recorded over 16 songs for the famed deejay, and during this period he also recorded for numerous other producers. His first release was a song entitled Ambassador on the Crazy Hate Label, while his newest release is titled Survivor. Another important milestone in the youg singer´s career was a chance meeting with deejay Jah Mason in 2001. Mason was impressed with Lutan Fyah´s singing style and recorded a few tracks with him. In no time Lutan was opening for Mason and other artistes on shows overseas. He has performed in Seattle, Los Angeles, London, San Francisco, Nassau, Atlanta and New York. Not only a singer, but also a player of instruments, Lutan in proficient on the guitar, keyboards and the kette drum; he writes most of his songs and believes in being original. This can be heard in his vocal styling which is very unique an cannot be likened to that of any established singer. Although a Rastafarian from high school, Lutan Fyah´s lyrics are not limited to religion and the regular themes of reggae, he sings about anything that inspires him to write and is comfortable performing in other genres apart from reggae. Now signed to Blade Music out of Florida, the singer, whose real name is Anthony Martin, is all set to make an indelible musical mark. With a professional management team and a producer of the calibre of Karl Piterson who also produced Bob Marley and Steel Pulse, Lutan Fyah has all the ingredients to make a major musical breakthrough. A very conscious individual, Lutan Fyah says that his touring has opened his eyes to the fact that reggae is but just a miniscule portion of the music market and hopes that with more creativity and originality reggae will soon command a bigger piece of the pie. And, yes…he definitely intends to be part of this rebirth. |
